Day 17 of the 30-Day Diet Kick-Up-the-Arser

Kickstarting Your Metabolism

Overpriced Supplements

Detoxes and Cleanses Are Useless

Kickstarting Your Metabolism (And Other Things That Don’t Exist)

Let’s clear something up straight away.

One of these statements is true:

  • Lemon water “kickstarts” your metabolism
  • Apple cider vinegar melts fat
  • Your liver and kidneys already detox your body

If you picked the first two, don’t beat yourself up.

The diet industry has made billions convincing people that fat loss needs hacks, tricks, and magic shortcuts.

It doesn’t.

Detoxes and Cleanses Are Useless

Your body already has two built-in detox systems:

  • Your liver filters toxins
  • Your kidneys flush waste

If those are working, your body is already detoxing itself—24/7.

You don’t need teas, juices, or a ten-day cleanse.

Drinking only juice won’t “reset” anything. It just empties your wallet and leaves you tired, hungry, and ready to overeat the moment it’s over.

Fat Burners Are Just Expensive Caffeine

Fat burners promise to melt fat while you sleep.

What they actually do:

  • Deliver a caffeine hit that you could get from coffee
  • Slightly suppresses appetite, briefly

That’s it.

They don’t boost your metabolism.
They don’t override overeating.
They don’t replace a calorie deficit.

Want the most effective fat burner there is?

Eating fewer calories than you burn.

It’s boring.
It’s free.
It works.

Your Metabolism Isn’t Something You “Rev Up”

You don’t need lemon water, apple cider vinegar, or eating every three hours to keep your metabolism alive.

There are only two reliable ways to increase calorie burn:

  • Build more muscle: muscle burns more calories at rest
  • Move more: walking, daily activity, and general movement matter more than people realise

Skipping breakfast doesn’t “shut down” your metabolism. Fasting doesn’t “ruin” it.

What to Do Instead

If you actually want progress:

  • Drop the supplement gimmicks: no more teas, pills, or detoxes.
  • Eat real food: enough protein, fibre, and overall calories to function properly
  • Move more: lift weights, walk often and stop hunting shortcuts or the latest quick fixe

Your Task for Today

Think back to the last diet you tried.

Keto.
Slimming World.
Some overpriced fat-burning, detox tea.

You weren’t stupid for trying it.

You were sold a shortcut—wrapped in marketing and fake success stories.

Even if it turned out to be rubbish, was there anything useful you learned?

Maybe it helped you eat more protein.
Maybe it showed you that tracking works.
Maybe it taught you exactly what not to do again.

Keep the lesson.
Bin the rest of the nonsense.
