Day 2 Of The 30-Day Diet Kick-Up-the-Arser

Do Carbs Make You Fat?

Carbs aren’t some evil, fat-storing monster hiding in your pasta bowl.

They’re just another energy source.

Eating too many calories causes you to gain fat, not just carbs.

Here’s How Carbs Actually Work In Your Body

Your body loves carbs—they’re its preferred fuel source, especially for your brain and workouts.

Cutting carbs doesn’t dramatically “melt fat.” It just makes you drop water weight. (Until you eat carbs again… then poof, it’s back.)

Low-carb isn’t magic. If someone loses weight by cutting carbs, it’s because they ate fewer overall calories.

Unless you plan on living a joyless existence without bread, pasta, or potatoes forever… learn to eat them in a way that actually works for you.

The Real Reason You’re Gaining Weight

You’re eating like (with respect) a dick.

If you’re struggling to lose or are gaining weight, it’s not because you had a sandwich.

It’s because:

You’re eating too many total calories (carbs, fats, protein – it all adds up)

You inhale six biscuits with your tea without blinking

You’re stuck in the “weekends don’t count” mindset

You have no idea of what a recommended serving size actually is. (Spoiler: it’s typically half)

Carbs aren’t the enemy.

Mindless eating is.

How to Eat Carbs Without Ruining Your Progress

Pick more carbs that actually fill you up: potatoes, oats, whole grains = solid choices. Biscuits, doughnuts, Haribos. Not so much.

Pair carbs higher in fibre with protein & fats: this slows digestion and keeps you full longer.

Control portions: you’re unlikely to need a whole loaf of sourdough in one sitting.

Stop “saving up” carbs/calories for later: that’s how you demolish a large Domino’s, cookies, Ben & Jerry’s, and a bottle of wine, and wonder why you couldn’t stop.

Your Task for Today

Look at your meals:

How balanced is my plate?

Do I actually feel full after eating, or am I just eating out of habit or boredom?

Have I been unfairly blaming carbs this whole time?
